Elephant Hawk & Small Angle Shades

Small Angle Shades

Elephant Hawk
Under normal circumstances I would have said tonight was rubbish for moth trapping, it dropped to 7c and there wasn't much about...but what I did catch made it well worth the effort!!. When I first trapped back in the early 1970s I regularly caught Elephant Hawk moths so it was nice to get the first one for my garden and it was a beauty, I must admit though that for looks it was a close run contest because the other new moth for my garden was also strikingly beautiful.....Small Angle Shades.
The trap was out from 9:35pm to 3:30am

1 Light Brown Apple Moth
1 Brimstone
1 Elephant Hawk(NFG)
1 Green Carpet
1 Small Angle Shades(NFG)
1 Mottled Pug
1 Common Pug
1 Oak Hook Tip
5 Heart + Dart

  2. Thanks guys, I did manage to find it on UKMoths by searching through the Noctuidae(all 1000+ of them!!) but it was gone 5am by then so I didn't have the energy to edit the blog.
